Filmmaker Ian Robertson tells the story of Dan and Zoe, a couple finding truth, courage and love where they least expected it — underneath their dinner table.
Dan and Zoe sit at a fancy French restaurant as a waiter brings them dessert. Dan says they didn’t order the creme caramel, but Zoe tells him to take it. She urges him as he takes small bites of it. Then, he cuts into the ring.
Zoe is proposing to him.
Suddenly, armed robbers burst in. The gunmen walk to their table and Zoe gives them everything in her purse and then her jewelry. Dan hands over his wallet, then pauses before tossing in the ring.
The robbers go to the other tables. Zoe asks why Dan gave them the ring when the gunmen didn’t ask for it. Dan swears they said “anneau,” or “ring” in French. And Zoe asks to see the phrase book. She tells him “bague” means “ring” in French, not anneau. She calls him a liar.
To prove himself, Dan crawls over to a French man and asks how to to translate “anneau.” The man begins to take off his ring. Dan admits maybe the robber didn’t say anneau.
Dan sees people crawling to safety and suggests they run away with the others. Zoe, still upset, says she doesn’t need to run away everything. Dan tries to pull Zoe to safety, but knock over the champagne bucket instead.
Dan admits that he’s scared. Zoe says she’s terrified, too. But she thinks they’ll be okay. That gives Dan comfort and he crawls over.
Outside, the police arrive.
Dan tells Zoe he can’t stand creme caramel and they share a laugh together. Dan thinks they’ll be all right. Then, Dan proposes to Zoe without a ring. As they kiss, the police rush in and kill the robbers. The ring sits in front of them in a pool of blood.
