We often hear how daughters are daddy’s princesses. Young girls often look up to their dads for everything. And while a father-daughter relationship is crucial for the daughter, the relationship with their mother is also equally special and important in molding them to be a confident and successful woman. Typically moms are the ones who have to play the bad cop in any parent-child relationship. And amidst all the disciplining and other duties and responsibilities, we often tend to forget to be there for them.
1. She Needs You To Be Her Biggest Cheerleader
Kids need someone to believe in them. Whether it is riding a cycle or studying for a test, you need to instill the confidence in them that they can do it. And if you make her feel like it’s not possible for her to do it or she doesn’t have what it takes, then chances are she will start believing it. Kids who are not confident in themselves are unlikely to succeed in life as they start questioning their capabilities.
2. She Needs To Know That You Find Her Beautiful Inside Out
Girls today are exposed to Snapchat filters, retouched flawless Instagram images, and bullying through social media. All this can have an impact on how they view themselves through others. So, make sure that she knows you love her unconditionally. Let her know that she shouldn’t validate herself by how many likes she gets on Instagram or how she looks on the outside.
3. She Needs You To Be A Good Role Model For Her
Your daughter will be watching how you treat yourself and others from a very young age. So make sure you set a good example by valuing and respecting yourself and treating others the same way.
4. She Needs You To Spend Quality Time With Her
Yes, this might come as a surprise to all moms especially if you have a teenager at home. But she is going to be thankful to you for teaching those life skills such as cooking and doing laundry. Rather than pointing out her mistakes and telling her what she’s doing wrong, you can show her how it’s done and be patient and understanding at the same time. This way you can easily turn it into a nice bonding experience.
5. She Needs You To Be Less Critical Of Her
This can be challenging for moms since we tend to jump at the thought of our daughters making a mistake. Constantly monitoring their lives and not giving them the space to make mistakes and grow for themselves can be one of the worst things you could do. And while no mom likes to watch their daughter be hurt, sometimes it is better to simply be there to support them and guide them instead of making the decisions for them.
6. She Needs You To Give Her The Freedom To Say No
This can be tricky for some parents since you don’t want to encourage your daughter by allowing them to say no every time. We are not talking about disobeying or disrespecting you, but you can’t always force them into doing things they don’t want to. If her ‘no’ isn’t respected in her own home, then chances are she won’t feel confident in saying it to others.
7. She Needs You To Teach Her To Positive Self-Talk
Talking negatively about oneself can be extremely destructive without us even realizing it. We all tend to talk badly about ourselves or say negative things which will impact us negatively in the long run. Because the thing about negative self-talk is that we will eventually start believing it and then there’s no turning back. So, whenever you notice your daughter saying “I look ugly” or “I’m not fun”, make sure you come up with positive things and help her transition to positive self-talk.
Being a good mother is a lot more than just paying bills and cooking food for them. It’s also about being there for them and helping them grow up to be good and confident human beings.
